Welcome! ๐Ÿฅณ

Thank you ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป for your interest in this IMG Mentorship Programme. We are excited to have you onboard โœˆ.

How is the Program Structured?

  • Mentor/Mentee application goes through a validation process.
  • After validation, you get an e-mail invite to join our communication platform (slack).
  • In that platform, you’ll receive a welcome message which will contain a link to a slack channel to join.
  • Choose your specific role (Mentor/Mentee) to get automatically matched up with a person of a different role.
  • Our in-house MentorBot runs the whole program and will help you engage with your Mentor/Mentee.
  • Please remember to read and adhere to the respective (Mentor/Mentee) rules and guidelines.

Rules and Guidelines

The purpose and aim of this endeavour is to allow peer-to-peer support of international medical graduates (IMGs) in order to facilitate their adjustment and understanding of the NHS and UK healthcare system.

As a mentor, your role will be vital in ensuring the guidance process of new starters, regardless of the level at which they begin. We ask that you only undertake this role if you feel that you have the time and knowledge to dedicate, and that you are passionate about working towards this common goal. We hope to ensure the following with the mentee you are matched with:

  • Regular contact via our communication platform (Slack)
  • Maintenance of basic privacy and boundaries
  • Help in understanding new surroundings i.e. where to buy food, furniture, etc
  • Involvement in any local support groups/events
  • Signpost to relevant guidance sites or individuals as appropriate
  • Encourage and support them as appropriate
  • Answer any questions they may have while making them feel comfortable to ask so-called โ€˜silly questionsโ€™
  • Introducing them to others who may help further their development/career progression.

We intend for each mentorship cycle to last four weeks, after which you will have the option to opt out of the next cycle or continue to be rematched. Your mentee will complete a feedback form for you at the end of each cycle, after which you will be issued a certificate acknowledging your efforts.

Please understand that you should not feel at any time that you are solely responsible for the adjustment of your mentee. It is important that you set clear boundaries from the start. Do not feel obligated to go above and beyond your role. If at any time you believe that your mentee is at risk or requires more support than you can offer, please do not hesitate to raise this locally to those who can better be of assistance.

If you feel at any time that improper or inappropriate behaviour is stemming from this mentorship, please highlight this to us so that we may take immediate action.
